Assessing damage after a fire
In the event of a disaster, an area may become contaminated. This can occur, for example, in a fire where asbestos or other hazardous substances are released, or in an incident involving solar panels. It is crucial to quickly map out the contaminated area so that it can be cordoned off and cleaned. We determine the extent of the contamination through visual inspection and/or by taking air, dust, and soil samples.
Asbestos Incidents
Our certified inspectors and environmental consultants are available 24/7 to assess the extent of the contamination. They follow the guidelines set out in the "Handreiking aanpak asbestincidenten" (Guideline for Handling Asbestos Incidents). In their mobile laboratories, they efficiently analyze samples. If regulations require, suspected asbestos materials are examined using advanced Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) after initial optical microscopy. We provide immediate advice to minimize risks to human health and the environment.
Solar Panel Incidents
In incidents involving solar panels, such as fires, smoke and wind can carry tiny glass particles and other materials up to 10 kilometers away. Such incidents can affect not only the immediate area but also a much larger region. Grazing animals might ingest these particles, playing children might come into contact with them, and the soil can become contaminated.

The Solar Panel Incident Research Protocol ensures that all parties involved know their roles and responsibilities after a solar panel incident. SGS Search contributed to its development. Our experts have extensive experience in environmental research, asbestos inventory and remediation, fire investigations, and damage assessment. They work closely with all involved parties, including firefighters and insurers, allowing for rapid response from mapping the contamination to clearing the affected area.
