Investigating the presence of heavy metals in paint and preservation layers is often complex. Similarly, decisions about processing and/or removing these layers during work activities can be challenging. We conduct targeted research to understand the actual situation and identify the risks involved. With our findings, you can implement measures to protect the health of both people and the environment.

Heavy metals, such as lead, zinc, cadmium, and chromium-6, have been and continue to be used as colorants or additives in paint and preservation layers. As long as these layers remain intact, they generally pose no threat to human health or the environment. The risk typically arises during processing. Activities like sanding or drilling can release metal particles, which can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact. Once these particles settle in the environment, they can cause pollution.
Risk Factors
The actual risks depend on various factors. In our research and advice, we consider the following:
• The concentration of heavy metals in the material to be processed.
• The type of processing (manual or mechanical) to be performed.
• Whether the material will be completely removed or only lightly processed (e.g., light sanding of a top layer).
• The location of the heavy metals within the layers and whether workers will come into contact with them.
• The amount of dust released during processing and the presence of control measures.
• The duration of the work.
• The potential environmental impact.
